Yay hot days are finally here! Add this perfect beginner friendly crochet halter top to your summer crochet projects collection. This crochet crop top pattern uses easy techniques to make a stylish and modern summer top! It is a fun project using double crochet, single crochet and chain stiches and you will want to wear this cute halter crop top all the time everywhere you go!

The top is worked by first starting with top’s body separate, and then add 2 long straps that will be tied around your neck, cris cross and tied together at your back. It is worked by flat layered the project, and keep turning over throughout. In case you would want to make your crop top in a bigger size then add more chains at the beginning and for smaller size chain few number of chains at the beginning too or for longer straps then add more chains  before you proceed to the next step.

Abbreviations and stitches used (USA Crochet terminology, Right hand)

  • Slip stitch (slp st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Stitch (st)
  • Double crochet (dc)

Skills Level: Beginner- Advanced                                                           

Materials:

  • Yarn: 100g, Double Knit yarn (DK), 100% Acrylic yarn/ Cotton yarn for the entire project, you can add more balls of yarn if you are making a bigger and you can use any yarn type/size you have at hand as well as any yarn brand.
  • Crochet hook: 4mm crochet hook, if you are using DK yarn (you can use any other crochet hook size depending on the yarn type/size you are using as written on the yarn ball’s label

Notions:

  • Stitch markers
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissor

Gauge:

  • Halter top: 18inches (wide)× 13 inches (long)

Finished Measurements:

  •  Straps = 249 sts per strap
  • Halter top = 21 sts for the last row

Pattern Notes:         

  • Start crocheting into the first st from the hook at the beginning of every row
  • Halter top- Dc, sc and ch  only
  • Straps – Ch and slp sts only
  • Always mark your first st (beginning of every row) and last st (end of every row) to keep track of your work
  • Turning ch 1 does not count as a st
  • Decrease – crochet the first 2 sts 2 together and the last 2 sts 2 together, regardless which crochet sts is being used for each specific row.
  • Keep decreasing every row from row 8 – row 21
  • To keep track of your st count for every row, keep subtracting 2 sts every time

Pattern

  • To begin, make a slp knt and ch 61
  • R1: Dc into the second ch from the hook and continue dc in each ch all the way until end of the row, at the end, ch 1, turn (60 sts).
  • R2: Dc into the first st from the hook, ch 1, skp 1 st, dc into the next st (repeat till end of the row), dc into the last st, ch 1, turn (60 sts).
  • R3: Dc into the first st from the hook and continue dc in each st till end of the row, ch 1, turn (60 sts).
  • R4: Dc into the first st from the hook, ch 2, skp 2 sts, dcc into the next st, ch 2, skp 2 sts, dc into the next st (repeat till end of the row), ch 1, turn (60 sts).
  • R5: Dc into the first st from the hook and dc into each st all the way till the end, ch 1, turn (58 sts).
  • R6R7: Repeat R5
  • R8: Repeat R5 but with decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only, ch 1, turn.
  • R9R12: Repeat R8
  • R13: Repeat R2, but with decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only, ch 1, turn.
  • R14: Sc into the first 2 sts 2 together, and continue sc in each st until the second last st, (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), ch 1, turn.
  • R15: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R4.
  • R16: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R14.
  • R17: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R2.
  • R18: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R14.
  • R19: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R4.
  • R20R21: (decrease for the first two sts and last 2 sts only), repeat R1 (23 sts for R20 & 21 sts for R21).
  • At the end of R21, ch 250 or add more ch if you want a longer strap, slp st into the second ch from the hook and continue slp st in each ch till you reach the base of the strap, slp st to join into the same st you have started with your strap, ch 1, cut off the yarn.
  • To make a second strap, make a slp knt, slp st to join into the first st on the other top side like where you started with the first strap, ch 250 and repeat the same procedure you did for the first strap.
  • Weave in all your ends.
